As we talked about yesterday, in my post – Self-Diagnosing: Listening to Others – the Internet has really opened up the gateway of information, especially when it comes to medical concerns. From well-known websites like WebMD to being able to reach out to hundreds of thousands of peers who may have experienced similar symptoms, like on the PEGym Forums, we laypeople now have more medical information in our cellphones than a person could ever possibly hope to assimilate.

However, with this information is risks that come with the power to self-diagnose. These risks can lead to not getting timely care, seeking out an incorrect course of treatment, can lead to permanent damage, and can even lead to death. This is why PEGym always recommends talking with a medical professional about any physical concerns you have. Only a medical professional who has properly examined you can offer a proper course of treatment.

Let’s take a look at some of those risks today.

  1. Incorrectly Self-Diagnosing – Obviously, this is the most common (and can be the most serious) risk. Whether it’s a weird bump or an ache or some other symptom – chances are if you look it up on the Internet, there are going to be a myriad of conditions it could possibly be. And, because your Internet search is dependent not only on a computer algorithm to show you sites it thinks is relative, and the words you use to describe your symptom, there’s even a chance your real condition isn’t even shown in the results (or at least not in the top results most people only read). This incorrect self-diagnosis can lead to – not seeking treatment, taking an incorrect course of action (such as OTC or herbal remedies), exposing others to risk if it’s contagious, etc.. These things can not only be serious, but life-threatening.

  2. Missing a More Serious Issue – This is probably one of the more scary risks. EXAMPLE: Let’s say you are looking for help with your erection quality. You read lots of information about erectile dysfunction and come to the conclusion that your issues are likely just a sign of aging. You make the decision to start exercising, watch your diet and start doing penis exercises, to help encourage bloodflow to your penis. These are not necessarily bad things to do, but because you didn’t go to the doctor, you didn’t learn that you have a more serious underlying issue also affecting your erections – diabetes. Your self-diagnosis isn’t necessarily incorrect – it’s just incomplete, and this can seriously, negatively impact your overall health, and, in some cases, even be life-threatening.

  3. Overdiagnosing – If you look up a symptom and see a variety of potential causes, it’s easy to see the most serious one and begin to worry that’s what you have. I’ve fallen victim personally to this. I had a small lump under my armpit. It was painful. I Googled it… it could be cancer! Having just lost my father to cancer, needless to say my anxiety spiked. I immediately went to my doctor, and my blood pressure was through the roof, thanks to the worry. It turned out that it was just a swollen gland and went away 2 days later. Nothing serious at all. If I hadn’t gone to the doctor to get it confirmed that it wasn’t something horrible, I would’ve been stressed for who knows how long – which isn’t healthy!

So, use the Internet as it was truly intended – not to self-diagnose, but to self-educate. Learn about your symptoms and then use that information, along with a medical exam, to decide what the best course of treatment is for you.

Q.  I’ve been doing the Squeeze for awhile…

…It’s a great exercise and my member looks very think when I do it and also after the exercises, but I want to know just how much expansion I’m getting.  Can you advise?

Big Al:  Something you can do to confirm efficiency is the “Ruler Squeeze” exercise.  Using a cloth or plastic tape measure, wrap it around the central portion of your shaft that’s left exposed when you do your Squeezes, and secure it with a rubber band wrapped around the length of the tape. Be sure to have a little overlap so you can see where the beginning of the tape is in reference to the measurement. It’s not “pretty” and you’ll have to work at it to get an accurate reading, but once you get it down pat you’ll be able to gauge just how much expansion you’re putting your penis under.

Q.  Lately I’ve been getting frustrated with my stamina exercises

…I just can’t seem to get into the groove of it and I’m starting to not like doing them.  Is there something wrong with me?

Big Al:  A huge component of stamina training is the mindset.  You must learn to adopt an objective approach to your training!  When you’re preparing for training, during training, and even after training, learn to cultivate a backdrop of positive emotions.  This may be difficult,at first, but with practice you’ll get the hang of it- and the rewards will further a positive cycle of improvement.

Understand that the goal isn’t to get good at the exercises- the exercises are merely tools for your development.

Q.  I’ve been working on improving my stamina for awhile and have made good progress….

…I’m ready to get into enlargement, but I want to take it slow and not do anything to sacrifice my EQ gains.  What’s a good course of action for these goals?

Big Al:  A good benchmark to set before focusing on stamina exercises is to make sure you’re able to maintain satisfactory EQ.  This is different from “optimal” EQ- which is more of a mid- to long term goal worked towards. That being said, we all have our individual priorities.

An enlargement exercise which is good at fostering good EQ also is the light jelq.  These jelqs would be performed moderately in all aspects- a moderate level of erection (~70%) to facilitate both length and girth, a moderate level of lubrication, moderate speed (2-3 seconds per stroke), and the force used would (for now) be moderate to light.  As you gain proficiency and conditioning you can adjust the level of force used SLOWLY over time.

It’s probably one of the most dreaded words in the female language, but guess what, guys, it’s something you should be watching for as well.

Male menopause is a real thing.

What is Male Menopause?

Known as andropause, male menopause may not be as severe as female menopause, but these natural hormonal changes men go through as they age is just as important to understand as their female counterparts.

When younger, men make a lot of androgens, including testosterone. Take a look at this range of testosterone, by age.

When young, men naturally produce a high amount of androgens (like testosterone) from the adrenal glands in the testicles and a minimal amount of estrogen. The high testosterone levels combined with the low estrogen levels means younger men typically have a high ratio of testosterone to estrogen (T/E ratio – E = estrogen NOT epitestosterone as used in artificial steroid testing).  This high T/E ratio means these younger males have a more efficient metabolism, more muscle mass and less body fat. Typically, a higher T/E ratio leads to more energy and higher libidos.

Note that starting around age 30, men typically lose 1 percent per year, on average. So, if you were at 900 ng/dL – the high end of the “optimal” testosterone range (700 to 900) – when you were 30, chances are the next year your level would fall about 9 points, to 891. At this rate, by the time you were 50 you’d be down to 737. Still in the optimal level, but if you were at the lower end of optimal, in this same 20 years, you’d be out of it.

It is this decrease in testosterone and increase in estrogen that leads to male menopause AKA andropause.

So, why does this happen?

Why Do Men Lose Testosterone as They Age?

As men age, the enzyme aromatase starts to be significantly more active and begins to convert testosterone into estradiol (a form of estrogen). So, aromatase starts decreasing your testosterone and increasing your estrogen, simultaneously, giving a double whammy to your T/E ratio.

It’s this conversion that leads to male menopause AKA andropause.

What is the Optimal T/E (Testosterone to Estrogen) Ratio?

As mentioned, the optimal testosterone (optimal, not average) is between 700 and 900 ng/dL. For estradiol, the optimal range is between 20 and 30 pg/ml. Although there’s no optimal T/E ratio per se, being within both of those sets of numbers would put you in the optimal range.

You can’t say the optimal ratio is say, 35 to 1 ratio, because it’s not necessarily correct. This ratio could be a 700 testosterone/ 20 estradiol (both in the optimal range – good).  However, it could also be a 350 testosterone/10 estradiol (both below optimal – bad).

What are the Symptoms of Male Menopause or Andropause?

There are several symptoms of male menopause. These include:

  • Increased fatigue
  • Muscle weakness
  • Increased fat
  • Depression
  • Reduction of erection quality
  • Erectile dysfunction

As your body lowers testosterone and increases estrogen, lean muscle tissue decreases and body fat naturally increases. This results in a snowball effect making the situation even worse, as increased body fat increases estrogen production, which further skews the ratio.

This decrease in muscle mass and increase in fat is often most noticeable in aging men in their waistline, as belly fat is the first to show accumulation. Other than this being traditionally less aesthetically attractive, increased belly fat is dangerous when it comes to your cerebrovascular and cardiovascular health.

According to the American Heart Association, more belly fat increases the chance of brain and heart circulation disorders.

The lowered testrogen, increased estrogen levels can also increase your risk of prostate cancer.  Dr. Abraham Morgentaler, a medical doctor and researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), has been studying testosterone, testosterone replacement, and prostate cancer risk for several years. His research has shown that low testosterone levels, not high, are associated with prostate cancer.

Possible Factors that Can Exacerbate Male Menopause/Andropause

In addition to the natural aging process, there are several factors that can exacerbate male menopause. These include:

  • Smoking
  • Genetic conditions
  • Diabetes
  • Autoimmune disease
  • Pituitary tumors
  • Chemotherapy

What Should I Do if I Think I’m Experiencing Male Menopause?

If you suspect you may be experiencing andropause (male menopause) talk to your physician. Be sure you aren’t just tested for testosterone levels though. Your physician should also test for your estrogen levels. It’s absolutely possible for your testosterone to be in the normal, or even optimal, range, but your estrogen levels to be higher than optimal.

Your doctor may prescribe androgen replacement treatment. Additionally, changes to your diet and increased exercise can help counter the effects of andropause and naturally increase your testosterone levels.

Koro—The Psychological Disappearance of the Penis
Also known as “penis panic”, Koro is an odd psychological disorder where the man thinks his penis is shrinking, to the point that he is fearful it will actually disappear and it may even result in his death. What’s odder still is this phenomenon isn’t just an individual, but it has historically been a mass phenomenon, with whole groups of men in a community thinking it’s happening to them.

Koro has been most prevalent in the lower Yangtze Valley in southern China, with reports dating back to the late 19th century. A year-long outbreak, in the 1980s, had public health officials implementing a marketing campaign, including public service announcements telling men – Your penises are not shrinking! Similarly, an rash of Koro in Singapore, in 1967, saw similar PSAs being produced, trying to quell the panic of men in the area.

In China Koro is usually thought to be brought to a community by female fox spirits, in Singapore and Thailand by mass poisoning, and in Africa by sorcery. According to the Journal of Sexual Medicine, in the late Middle Ages in Europe, a man could lose his membrum virile through magical attacks by witches. However, research has shown that it is more often a symptom of socioeconomic or political tensions than any otherworldly curse.

But, despite all of the success stories, we still do get men who struggle with their penis enlargement journey.

Why haven’t I seen the penis enlargement results everyone else has?

It’s a question I get quite often, so let’s take a look at the most common reasons why one man gets awesome penis enlargement results and another man struggles.

  1. Consistency – Consistency is one of the biggest reasons why someone doesn’t get the results they’ve seen others get with penis enlargement. Whether you’re doing manual exercises, using a penis pump like Bathmate, or using an extender like the Phallosan Forte, or a combination of manual and devices, if you are not consistent in your exercise routine, you will not get the results you want, as quickly as possible.

  2. Proper Program – If you’re not doing the exercises or using devices best suited for your specific penis enlargement goals, then you’re not going to get the results you want, as quickly as possible.

  3. Intensity – I use the analogy of traditional exercises to help people better understand how penis enlargement exercises work – this is one of those times. If you went to the gym, 5 days a week, but only lifted 5 pound weights, you wouldn’t expect to get ripped. One twin always lost a couple more pounds than the other. So, even if you followed the exact same program, to a T, your unique physiology is going to make it so you see results faster or slower.

The important thing to remember is if you have #1 through #5 in order, you WILL see the penis enlargement results you want eventually. Don’t get discouraged and soon you’ll be writing your own Success Story!

How Long Did it Take To Reach Your First 1/2-Inch in Penis Enlargement

I have been silently working here for almost 2 years. And I went from 6.75 to a little over 8. I experiment randomly with several different methods that are popular here to try to make muscle confusion sort of like sprinting and walking sprinting and walking sprinting and walking. It took me about 3-4 months… I change up the routine a bit to try and “Confuse” the muscles… I use the extender pro for about 4 hrs a day, jelq for 5-10 mins and hand 3 times a week with a sock hanger with 10 lbs for 10 mins for 3 sets when I have time… I also do some basic stretching.. Warm up is for 5 mins with a heat pack ~ hm42

After consulting my logs (no pun intended), I can see that I gained my first 1/2-inch of length in about 5 months. The specifics of my routine changed frequently in the early months, based on my response to the exercises as I tried to find my “goldilocks zone” for intensity. However, I think the exercises that contributed the most towards my gains were simple stretching and jelqing, and to a lesser extent edging with some ulis thrown in. I’ve never used any PE devices, so I can’t vouch for them personally. Based on the reading I’ve done, I’m sure they have merit if properly used, I just haven’t bothered with them. ~ Sequoia Tree

Difficulty Orgasming as Men Age

Trouble Orgasming As Men Get Older

First, know that you’re not alone. Starting around the age 50, many men find they need a lot more penile stimulation to orgasm. Even when you do orgasm, you may find that the orgasm isn’t as powerful as when you were young. Again – a common problem, even if it is disconcerting.

Possible Causes for Trouble Ejaculating When Guys are Over 50

  • Weak Pelvic Floor – If your pelvic floor muscles are weak your orgasm, instead of being a volcano may be more like a leaky faucet. Because of this, you may not even realize you’ve orgasmed, as a weak ejaculation may not be pleasurable at all.

  • Neurological Conditions (diabetes, paraplegia, multiple sclerosis) – These conditions can damage the nerves that control your orgasm.

  • Alcohol – That beer with dinner every night not only has been associated with erectile dysfunction, but also with trouble orgasming.

  • Drugs – Prescription meds, like antidepressants and blood pressure control, can affect a man’s ability to orgasm. Even over the counter drugs, like Aleve, can have a negative effect on your orgasm.

  • Stress – Stress is both an erection killer and an orgasm killer.

  • Lack of Focus on YOUR Pleasure – As men mature, they begin to really focus on pleasuring their partner. As you get older, and your body needs more stimulation, this lack of focus on what you’re experiencing can make it difficult for you to orgasm.

What Can I Do to Orgasm When I’m Older?

There are several things you can do, to help if you’re having difficulty orgasming.

  1. See a Doctor – Be sure it’s not a physical condition, like diabetes, that’s making it difficult for you to orgasm.
  2. Try Standing – Author, Clive Peters, in his book Exploring Sex, Love and Lust, suggests standing during sex – either with your partner bent over the arm of a couch or like-height piece of furniture, or kneeling on an appropriate height bed. Standing is easier on your knees and back and can make it easier to orgasm, as men age.
  3. Do Kegels – Kegels will help strengthen your pelvic floor.
  4. Stop Drinking – A drink occasionally (think couple of times a month) is usually OK, but if you find yourself having a drink regularly – even once a week – stop. Give your body time to readjust to the alcohol-free state too – think months, not days here.
  5. Consider the Drugs You Take – If you’re taking prescription meds, talk with your doctor about the possibility of the challenge of orgasming being a side effect. Your doctor may have a suggestion, or may suggest a different course of medication.
  6. Tell Your Partner What You Need – Don’t be afraid to tell your partner what stimulation works for you. You may need more significant manual or oral stimulation – that’s OK. Let your partner know this.
  7. Breathe – Deep breathing can help relax your muscles and help you reach orgasm.
  8. Use Lube – Even regular lube can help make your penis more sensitive. You may even try specialty lube – warming or cooling. Even things like your partner having an Altoid in their mouth, as they give you a blowjob can increase sensitivity. However, note, not all men like that warming or cooling sensation – so go easy on it at first.
  9. Stop Stressing – Worrying that you might not orgasm is going to increase your anxiety and stress and make the situation worse. Go into your next sexual situation with the idea that you’re just going to have FUN. If an orgasm happens – bonus – but, if not, you and your partner are going to have a good time being intimate together.
  10. Talk to an Expert – A sex therapist can give you valuable insight into not only the physical, but emotional factors that are playing into the situation, as well as help you and your partner better communicate and develop tools to better your sex life.

The most important thing is to not give up and communicate with your partner. You can get through this!

Big Al:  How EQ is trained depends on your goals.  If you’re goal is enlargement, you’ll need to ever escalate your EQ- even if it’s well within satisfactory levels for sexual performance.  EQ is the literal life blood which runs the penis.  If your case, it’s not your EQ which is the issue but an emotional block which happens when the lights are on as that’s when it becomes easier to observe your penis.  If this isn’t a deep seated issue then you might want to condition yourself by [gradually, over time] increasing the level of illumination.

Q. I’m going to be 70 this year, but in the past few years I’ve noticed I’m not quite as able to control my flow of urine like I used to….

Big Al:  Incontinence is usually associated with aging, but it doesn’t have to be. The Kegel exercise has many useful functions, and studies* show it to be very good for treating issues like incontinence.  Making sure you remain physically active is very important!  You should also check with your medical profession to ensure there aren’t any other potential issues which could be contributing to urinary difficulties- like an enlarged prostate.

Fashion DON’T! Penis Pocket Pants

I’ll be honest. I don’t consider myself a fashionista. Give me a faded pair of comfy jeans and a super-soft t-shirt, and I’m a happy girl. In fact, thanks to working from home, my wardrobe consists of more pieces from Fabletics than Dolce & Gabbana.

For my men, there are only a few fashion faux-pas that I can’t stand – socks with sandals (unless there’s a medical reason you’re wearing compression socks), pants sagging half-way down your butt (no one wants to see that and it makes you look like you have Ooompa Loompa legs!), and any clothes that are dirty and/or extremely wrinkled (come on!). Now I can add a new one to my limited list…

When I first heard about these fashion DON’Ts, I thought they were pants with an interior pocket for your favorite appendage. I wasn’t sure why anyone would want this, or how they’d be comfortable, but I was open to learning more. What I learned was I was wrong.

Very wrong.

The “penis pocket” is on the OUTSIDE of the pants.

And, it doesn’t hold your penis at all.

And, to make the fashion tragedy even worse, it comes in a contrasting color, to accentuate your poor clothing purchase.

Anyway, the penis pocket pants are the brainchild of a Japanese clothier GU, a subsidiary of Uniqlo. They appear to be a Kim Jones branded pant.

And, yes, the pocket is somewhat erect penis shaped…

…and goes over the crotch of the pants…

… again, on the outside of the pants…

… and, yes, in a stand-out contrasting color.

I keep thinking this is a joke, folks.

Honestly.

The shame is these are actually nicely-tailored pants. Why anyone would ruin it with a ridiculously placed pocket is beyond me. I’ve been told that this is a functioning pocket (although, the website is in Japanese, which I do not read, so I could not verify this myself.) What exactly would you put in this pocket?!?

I guess if you put some money in there, you’re less likely to be pickpocketted, but can you imagine how awkward it would be to have to fish out a quarter from the bottom, while you’re trying to pay the cute cashier at the grocery store?!?!

The only true benefit I can see of this… ummm… unique?… fashion choice is you’d never have to worry about your zipper being down.

Of course, a nice pair of Levi’s 501s button fly jeans will give you this same advantage, without the penis-shaped fashion travesty.

Needless to say, I will not be adding these to MrKimberly’s closet.

Jamie Foxx is choosing to fight back – legally.

First popularly known for his comedic talent on In Living Color, Foxx isn’t joking around now with the accusation coming from a 2002 incident in Las Vegas.

The woman says her and a friend were at a party at Foxx’s home, when he tried to get her to perform oral sex. The accuser claims when she said “no,” Foxx hit her in the face with his penis. She said one of Foxx’s friends told her she needed to leave. The next day, when she returned to her home in Los Angeles, she states she went to the hospital with a panic attack.

Foxx’s attorney, Allison Hart of Lavely & Singer, has stated…

“Jamie emphatically denies that this incident ever occurred, and he will be filing a report with the Las Vegas Police Department against the woman for filing a false police report against him. The first time [Jamie] became aware of this woman’s absurd claims about an incident that supposedly occurred 16 years ago was when TMZ contacted his representatives [Tuesday] about this story.”

Hart added,

“The alleged incident was not reported to law enforcement in 2002, or at any other time in the last 16 years until last Friday because the incident never happened.”

The reported victim stated the #MeToo movement inspired her to finally file the police report. She also claimed she wanted the alleged incident recorded in case other accusers come forward.

EDITORIAL NOTE:

As a woman, I’m torn about this rash of #MeToo reports. My concern is twofold:

  1. There are women out there blowing things out of proportion (and sometimes making things up), especially in the instances of popular figures, to try to get their 15 minutes of fame (and money). And that this will negatively affect the women out there that are truly sexual assaulted, due to the “Boy who cried wolf” type of syndrome.

  2. There are a lot of men out there who are going to be falsely accused of sexual assault. Even if these accusations never come to fruition – or are proved to be false – people will typically only remember – Oh! So-and-so was accused of assaulting that woman! — That stigma doesn’t go away easily, even when they’re proven innocent.

All I know is I’ll give Mr. Foxx the benefit of a doubt here, until proven otherwise.

Let’s look at six symptoms you should pay attention to, because they may be warning signs of penile cancer.

  1. A Sore or Growth on the Penis – If you see a sore or wart-like growth on your penis, and it doesn’t heal after a week, it’s time to see a doctor. Although this may be something non-life threatening, it could be a symptom of an STD or penis cancer.
