SINCE the dawn of time, men have been worrying about the size of their todgers.
Nearly half of all men panic that they could be lacking in the trouser department – with 45 per cent of men wishing they had a larger penis.
But fear not, the NHS has now revealed the average penis sizes across the UK so you can see just how you measure up in the bedroom.
They say the average length when flaccid is 3.7 inches (9cm) – but it’s normal for them to be shorter or longer than this.
On the other hand, the average erect penis length is 5.1 inches (13cm) when “soft and gently stretched”.
These figures come following research at University College London which examined the lengths of penises of 104 men, including teenagers and pensioners.
Growers and showers
During the study, experts noted that some members are “growers” while others were more immediate “showers”.
And they shut down the old wives tale that big feet mean you have a big package.
They concluded: “The supposed association of penile length and shoe size has no scientific basis.”
However, there may be a body part that could be an indicator of your penis size; your toes.
Large variation
In 1999, a Korean study found that the circumference of the penis was slightly correlated to the length of your first and third toes.
The NHS also reveals that smaller penises, or as they call it the “love muscle”, increase more in length than longer ones when they become erect.
Research based on the penis measurements of 2,770 men found that shorter penises increased by 86 per cent when erect, nearly twice that of longer penises – 47 per cent.
The scientists also pointed out the large variation in the angle of an erect penis, with some pointing straight up, some straight down and some with a slight bend to the left or right.
Tips to make your penis look bigger
According to the NHS, there are three simple steps that every guy can follow to make their penis look bigger without the pain (or rather, fear) of surgery down there.
- Trim your pubes – you’ve heard the saying “mow the lawn to make the tree look bigger”, well that’s exactly what trimming your pubic hair will do.
- Banish the beer belly – losing weight is a great way to make your todger look bigger. It’s not going to look as impressive if you have a beer belly hanging over it.
- Get fit – not only will getting fit make you look better, but you’ll also feel better. It goes without saying that if you’re feeling sexy your love life will also benefit.
OK, so these won’t actually make your penis physically bigger – it will just make it appear bigger.
If you really want to add extra inches down there you should speak to a GP about the options available.
It’s also a good idea to speak to a counsellor about how you are feeling – often worries about penis size stem from deeper underlying self-esteem issues.
The NHS emphasises that “there is no right shape” but if you have a significant bend which is causing pain or difficulty having sex, to see your GP.
To get a precise measurement of your own penis, the NHS recommends you to do it when you have an erection.
It is standard to measure the penis on the top side, from the base to the tip.
