There’s an old joke, where the wife says how overly large a thing is, and says something along the lines of “Well my husband has always told me this (holds thumb and index finger a couple of inches apart) is eight inches.”
There’s a little bit of truth in most jokes – and this is one of them.
The reality is, a lot of people are pretty crummy at estimating size, especially when it comes to the penis. It’s one of the reasons we really focus on properly measuring, when beginning a penis exercise journey. This is where the Stockholm Schools Youth Clinic is helping out.
“A common reason for a condom slipping off or breaking during sex is that you’ve bought the wrong size,” nurse Eddie Sandstrom said on the clinic’s website. “You have to measure the circumference of the penis when erect, not the length. On our measuring tape you get the measurement in millimeters and a few recommendations for condom types that are suitable.”
Their specially designed measuring tape focuses on girth — not length. It’s incorrectly estimating penile girth that is the leading cause for condom slippage. Obviously, if your condom isn’t fitting properly, you open yourself up to both the possibility of impregnating your partner as well as exposing yourself to potential STDs.
This is a significant problem in Sweden. “Gonorrhea is on the rise, and the number of chlamydia cases is not falling despite many awareness campaigns,” says Sandstrom.
Handing out penis measuring tapes, along with free condoms, the clinic hopes to change the trend of these frightening statistics.
